India defeated New Zealand in a rain-affected warm-up match for the International Cricket Council Champions Trophy at The Oval in London today.

The holders of the one-day tournament prevailed by 45 runs via the Duckworth/Lewis method after the match was cut short after 26 overs of the Indian reply.

Virat Kohli's side appeared to be cruising to victory anyway, as they sat on 129-3 when chasing New Zealand's disappointing 189 all out.

That was significantly in front of the par score of 84 needed to win using the D/L method.

New Zealand's wicket-keeper opener Luke Ronchi blasted 66 for his side after Kiwi captain Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bat.

However, James Needham's unbeaten 46 was the only support as the rest of the order disappointed.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of the Indian bowlers, taking 3-28 as New Zealand were restricted.

In reply, Kohli hit an unbeaten 52 as his side cruised home.

Australia will play Pakistan at Edgbaston in Birmingham in tomorrow's warm-up match.

The tournament proper, being hosted by England and Wales, begins on June 1.
