Fay Shacklock has been appointed as Australian Taekwondo's inaugural ambassador, the governing body has announced.

The veteran player has been involved in the sport for nearly four decades.

She was inducted into the Taekwondo Hall of Fame in 2013 for her humanitarian work.

Shacklock stretched her unbeaten run in the power breaking discipline at the Pan Pacific Masters Games to 25 years at the 2016 event at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in November at the age of 62.

The 10-time Queensland champion, a seventh Dan in the sport, first became national champion in power breaking back in 1991.

She is considered a legendary figure within Australian Taekwondo, where she has previously served as a vice-president.

The organisation is the governing body for the sport in Australia, recognised by the Australian Olympic Committee.

Shacklock has earned widespread plaudits for her humanitarian efforts, particularly with children and the elderly.

"I make them feel good about themselves," she told the Great Lakes Advocate.

"Taekwondo as a whole is about respect and commitment.

"Often, people who have self esteem problems are bullied.

"I feel satisfied in me as a person."
