Canada, Czech Republic and Switzerland share top spot in the round-robin standings after preserving their unbeaten records on the second day of play at the 2017 World Curling Federation (WCF) World Women's Curling Championships in Beijing.

The Canadians had only one game today and it took an extra end for them to beat Russia 10-9 at the Capital Gymnasium.

Czech Republic, meanwhile, played twice and followed up a 7-3 victory over the United States with an extra-end 8-7 win over hosts China in the evening session.

"We are really excited and happy," Czech Republic skip Anna Kubeskova said after her country’s win over China.

"It is always tough to play against the home team and home crowd.

"[Going into the extra end] we knew we had to win the end and that it was going to be tough, because we lost two in the 10th.

"But, it worked out.

"The Championship is going well, but it is still the beginning and we need to win more games."

Defending champions Switzerland also had two games today, beating China 8-7 in the morning and Denmark 12-4 in the evening.

Denmark earlier lost 7-4 to Sweden, meaning that they and China are now the only two teams still looking for their first wins.

South Korea fell to a 10-6 defeat at the hands of Germany in the afternoon, but came back on against Italy in the evening and won 7-4.

Scotland had a mixed day, losing to Italy 7-6 in the morning session before coming back in the evening to beat Russia 10-7.

Both they and Sweden have two wins from three outings, while Germany, Italy, South Korea, Russia and the US all have one victory each to their names.

Action in Beijing is due to continue tomorrow.
