Top seed Chen Meng cruised through her first round test in the women's singles competition at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Hungarian Open in Budapest today.

It was a dominant day for China as male and female knock-out round action began at the Danubius Hotel Arena.

Chen cruised through in four straight sets against Belarus' Alina Arlouskaya.

This set-up a last 16 clash with Arlouskaya's fellow countrywoman Viktoria Pavlovich, a 4-0 winner over Poland's Klaudia Kusinska today.

Chen Xingtong and Che Xiaoxi were among the other Chinese winners.

Chen beat home Hungarian player Szandra Pergel, 4-1, while Che also required five games to see off Russia's Polina Mikhailova.

In the first round of men's singles action, Zhou Yu led the Chinese charge by easing past England's Liam Pitchford 4-0.

Such is the calibre of the world's leading team that Shang Kun was similarly comfortable in a 4-1 victory over world number 19 Stefan Fegerl of Austria, despite not currently having a world ranking.

Kun has barely featured in the international circuit but was rewarded for a series of superb performances during last year's Chinese Men's Super League.

Belarus' number one seed Vladimir Samsonov is the main rival to the Chinese and began well today with a 4-1 win over Frenchman Quentin Robinot.

He is now due to face an intriguing second round clash against Poland's European bronze medallist Jakub Dyjas, pushed to seven sets today in a 4-3 opening round victory over Spaniard Alvaro Robles.
