South Korea's Jeoung Youngsik recovered from two games down to reach the semi-finals of the 2016 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Tour Grand Finals in Doha in Qatar today.

There were only two men's singles quarter finals matches today while round of 16 action continued.

Youngsik, seeded 12 in the tournament, produced the emphatic comeback at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena to oust the fifth seed Chuang Chih-Yuan of Chinese Taipei’s and secure his place in the final four.

Chuang's class appeared evident from the start as he raced into a two game lead 11-13, 10-12.

Unfazed by the deficit and his opponent's superiority though, Jeoung fought back and levelled the match 11-6, 11-7.

Spurred on by the momentum he had gathered, Jeoung then secured his passage into the next round by taking the third and decisive fourth games 12-10, 11-1.

He will now take on China's Ma Long, the world number one and Rio 2016 Olympic champion, after he breezed past Wong Chun Ting of Hong Kong.

Long, the favourite this week, won in straight games 11-4, 11-3, 11-6, 11-5.

Keeping European hopes alive in the men’s singles event is Germany’s Dimitrij Ovcharov.

The 28 year dispatched Hong Kong's Tang Peng 11-9, 11-5, 13-15, 14-12, 11-6 to reserve his place in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, China's Zhu Yuling continued her impressive form as she became the first women into the semi-finals today.

The third seed did not have it her own way though as Cheng I-Ching of Chinese Taipei stormed into a two game lead only to be on the receiving end of a sublime comeback.

Zhu's class shone through in the end as she won 8-11, 10-12, 12-10, 11-8, 11-8, 11-7.

Germany's Han Ying successfully made it through to the quarter-finals as she dispatched Mima Ito of Japan 8-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-2, 6-11, 11-5.

Han will now take on China's Ding Ning for a place in the last four.

Ding, the number one seed and winner of this competition last year, defeated Lee Ho Ching of Hong Kong in straight games 14-12, 11-7, 11-5, 11-6.

Action continues tomorrow with the remainder of the quarter-finals and semi-finals in both competitions.
