Experts from around the world went to Bonn in Germany last month to discuss classification matters for the International Paralympic Committees (IPC).

The session saw parties discuss a variety of matters including the Athlete Classification Code used by International Federations (IF).

They also had IF members along with representatives from the International Organisations of Sport for the Disabled present at the meetings to look over the initiatives in classification, including any rule changes which are needed.

“The heads of classification realise the importance of establishing a clear and transparent sport specific classification system and are now tasked with updating their sport specific rules to be compliant with the IPC,” said Erin Popovich, the athlete representative on the IPC Classification Committee.

“I look forward to the updates made within each sport over the next year and the research used to improve the current testing for classification.”

There was also a meeting held by the Classification Research Forum, who spoke about their latest findings.

They were also given feedback on the work done by them with members of the development centres, which receive funding from the IPC, being present as well.

The centres, introduced in 2013, are based at the University of Queensland, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
