The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the bowling action of West Indian player Marlon Samuels has been found to be legal.

Samuels' action was reported by officials during a Test match against Sri Lanka on October 19, 2015.

He was subsequently suspended for 12 months in December 2015 after an independent assessment revealed he had employed an illegal bowling action for the second time in two years.

However, on January 29, Samuels was reassessed of his bowling action at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough where it was revealed that the amount of elbow extension for his off-spin deliveries was within the 15 degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC regulations.

Umpires are still at liberty to report Samuels if they believe he is "displaying a suspect action and not reproducing the legal action from the reassessment".

To assist the umpires, they will be provided with images and video footage of the bowler’s remodelled legal bowling action.

If Samuels is reported again, he will be required to undertake further analysis of his bowling action at an ICC accredited testing centre.

During his career, Samuels has taken 41 Test wickets and 85 in One-Day Internationals, as well as 19 in Twenty20 internationals.

Samuels' action had been reported for the first time in 2008 after bowling a faster ball in a Test match against South Africa in Durban.

He was later suspended from bowling in international cricket, but after remedial work on his action, was permitted to bowl once again in September 2011.

The 36-year-old was then reported during the a Test against India in Mumbai in November 2013.

Following tests, he was allowed to continue to bowl the off break delivery but not his quicker ball.

Samuels last played for West Indies against Pakistan on the tour of the UAE between September and November last year.

The West Indies are next in action against England in an ODI series, starting from March 3.
