Israel’s Yoav Omer claimed a hat-trick of race victories to extend his advantage at the top of the boy’s RS:X competition to 16 points at the Youth Sailing World Championships in Auckland.

The Israeli was in superb form as he picked up three bullets on the second day of action off the Hauraki Gulf.

Omer has now won all but one of the races in the classification and has just five points, 16 better than Mack van den Eerenbeemt of Aruba in second place.

Sil Hoekstra of The Netherlands is third, just as he was after the opening day’s racing.

Denmark’s Patrick Doepping maintained his lead at the summit of the boy’s laser radial standings as he discarded a 37th place finish.

Doepping came home in eight in the other race to end on 10 points.

The Dane is two points in front of home sailor George Gautrey, while Dominik Perkovic of Croatia is currently third.

“In the strong breeze I don't have the disadvantage I have in the light breeze and that's why I didn't do well today,” Doepping said.

“I have been very calm and haven't been in any situations so far.

“I will keep doing what I've done over the last couple of days and avoid any mistakes.”

Sandra Luli of Croatia followed suit in the girl’s laser radial event as she discarded her eighth place and recorded a second place result on her way to opening up a nine-point lead at the top of the leaderboard.

Rio 2016 Olympian Dolores Moreira Fraschini of Uruguay is the Croatian’s closet challenger in second, while Germany's Anderssohn sits in third.

It proved to be a disappointing outing for defending champion Maria Erdi of Hungary, who dropped down to fifth at the conclusion of the day’s racing.

Despite varying wind conditions, France's Tim Mourniac and Charles Dorange continued their impressive start to their bid for the Nacra 15 world title as they extended their advantage to 10 points.

The French pair finished with a race victory and two second place results in the class, which is making its first-ever appearance at the Youth Sailing World Championships.

Romain Screve and Ian Brill of the United States trail in second, with Belgians Henri Demesmaeker and Isaura Maenhaut currently lying third.

Emma Wilson of Britain secured two wins in the girl’s RS:X event to keep hold of position as overall leader on nine points.

Maria Belen Bazo of Peru is second with 12, while Katy Spychakov of Israel is also in contention.

Gwendal Nael and Lilian Mercier of France have a slender lead in the boy’s 29er thanks to a bullet and a second place after finishing eighth in race one.

John Cooley and Simon Hoffman of Australia are second on 16, one adrift of the French duo, with Crispin Beaumont and Tom Darling seven points further back in third.
