South Korea's Son Wan Ho and Olympic silver medallist Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia will meet in one of the highlights of the opening day’s play at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Dubai World Superseries Finals here tomorrow.

Both men come into the tournament fresh from claiming recent honours, with Son winning the Korea Open and Lee picking up the BWF Men’s Player of the Year award yesterday.

They will be seeking a strong start to the season-ending event, which features the top eight available players, having been drawn into Group B.

Their clash will be one of several intriguing match-ups which will unfold throughout the first day of competition here at the Hamdan Sports Complex.

Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus and Denmark’s Olympic bronze medallist Viktor Axelsen will meet in the group’s other match tomorrow.

Men’s singles action will begin, however, with the clash between China’s Tian Houwei and Germany’s Marc Zwiebler in the morning session.

The Group A rivals will then be able to watch their future round robin opponents Hu Yun of Hong Kong and tournament top seed Jan Ø. Jorgensen of Denmark battle to begin their tournament in a strong manner.

China’s Sun Yu and Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon will contest the first women’s singles tie of the day when they look for a victory in Group A, with their match coming before Chinese Taipei's world number one Tai Tzu Ying faces China’s He Bingjiao.

Olympic champion Carolina Marin of Spain is set to take on China’s Sun Yu in Group B.

The highlight of the women’s singles tomorrow could be the game between India’s Olympic silver medallist Pusarla Sindhu and Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, the tournament's second seed.

South Korea’s Ko Sung Hyun and Kim Ha Na will face a stern test in the first mixed doubles match of the tournament, with the newly crowned Korea Open champions looking to justify their top seed status.

They will face the challenge of Denmark’s Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen tomorrow, with the third seeded pairing expected to prove a strong threat in Group A.

A total of 20 matches will be contested on the opening day of the tournament, across the five different events.
