Son Wan Ho earned men’s singles gold as the host nation triumphed in all five finals at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Korea Masters in the Seogwipo Olympic Stadium.

Top seed Son lived up to his pre-tournament billing as he dominated throughout the gold medal match against Malaysia’s Darren Liew, at the BWF Grand Prix Gold level competition.

Son would wrap up a straightforward 21-13, 21-16 victory to win the tie after 44 minutes of action.

The victory will prove a boost to the 28-year-old as he prepares to compete at the season ending Dubai World Superseries Finals, which features the top eight players and teams in each of the five events.

Four of South Korea’s five gold medallists in Seogwipo are to compete in Dubai, including Sung Ji Hyun.

She warmed up for the competition by winning the women’s singles event in front of a home crowd, with the top seed easily defeating her compatriot Jang Mi Lee 21-8, 21-10.

Jung Kyung Eun and Shin Seung Chan would then secure the women’s doubles title after coming out on top in another all South Korean final.

They defeated sixth seeds Kim So Yeong and Chae Yoo Jung by a 21-14, 21-14 scoreline.

The mixed doubles title would soon follow for the hosts, with Ko Sung Hyun and Kim Ha Na combining to good effect to win 21-19, 21-16 against Dechapol Puavaranuk and Sapsiree Taerattana of Thailand.

Ko had earlier earned the men’s doubles title alongside Jae Hwan Kim, but the duo will not feature as a partnership this week in Dubai.

They recorded a 21-19, 21-18 victory over Chinese Taipei’s top seeded pairing of Yang
Lee and Jhe-Huei Lee.

The result ensured South Korea earned a clean sweep of gold medals at their home event.
