Germany's Christian Ahlmann triumphed in a 19-rider jump-off to win the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) World Cup Jumping leg in Stuttgart today.

Congested jump-offs have become routine this season with riders regularly going clear but it was Ahlmann who produced the quickest time at the second attempt while going clear again.

The team jumping bronze medallist from the Rio 2016 and Athens 2004 Olympic Games clocked 42.85sec on board Taloubet Z to win by a comfortable margin of more than two seconds at his home tournament.

Second-placed Swiss Steve Guerdat, the individual Olympic champion at London 2012, finished in 44.95sec riding Bianca as 11 riders in the jump-off went double clear.

Irishman Cian O'Connor was third on Good Luck, in a time of 45.03sec.

"Everything worked out the way I wanted, we had an amazing run and Taloubet did an amazing job," said Ahlmann.

"He has asuper team around him, they take care of every single step he does - his home groom, his show groom, his rider, his blacksmith, everyone does a good job to make sure he’s always in top shape."

Guerdat now leads the overall Western European League standings on 42 points, with Kevin Staut of France second on 39.

Another Swiss, Romain Duguet, is third on 37.

Round six of the season will take place in Spanish capital Madrid on November 27.
