Gerrit-Jan Scholten, who has held a number of high ranking positions in various curling bodies, has passed away at the age of 64.

In recent years Scholten served as a representative for The Netherlands at the World Curling Federation’s (WCF) Congresses and annual meetings.

He was an active member of the WCF Governance Commission in the past and was serving on the Finance Commission this year.

Scholten, along with Curling Canada's Hugh Avery, were the two members added to the Finance Commission in April 2016.

During his career Scholten also spent time as treasurer of the European Curling Federation.

The WCF has announced that they are deeply saddened to learn of Scholten's passing.

"On behalf of the World Curling Federation I express our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Gerrit-Jan, and to the curling community in Holland," said WCF President Kate Caithness.

"Our thoughts are with his wife Alie at this sad time.

"Gerrit-Jan was a well known face at WCF championships and meetings and he made many valuable contributions to the work of the WCF in his various roles.

"World Curling has lost a great friend and advocate of the sport."
