The World Curling Federation (WCF) Board has appointed new members to its Standing Commissions following meetings in Basel in Swtitzerland.

Olympian Susanne Slotsager, a two-time women's world champion for Denmark, is one of two appointees to the Governance Commission alongside Jennifer Stannard of the United States.

Russia's Olga Zharkova, who won gold at the Le Gruyère European Curling Championships in 2006, takes her place on the Competition and Rules Commission while two members have been added to the Finance Commission.

These are Curling Canada's Hugh Avery and Gerrit-Jan Scholten of the Netherlands Curling Association.

WCF President Kate Caithness welcomed the new appointments and said they would boost their respective Commissions.

“It is my pleasure to welcome Olga, Hugh, Gerrit-Jan, Jennifer and Susanne onto our Standing Commissions," she said.

"Each one of them will bring valuable knowledge and experience to their individual roles and respective Commissions.

“The WCF Board also thanks Karel Kubesca, Didi Kolb and Olli Rissanen, who are stepping down, for their service to the Commissions and the World Curling Federation.”

The Governance Commission, which advises, assists and educates the WCF and its Member Associations on good practice, features four members in all and is chaired by Canada's Laura Lochanski.

Eleven members feature in the Competition and Rules Commission, chaired by Australian Hugh Milikin, while a six-strong Finance Commission is led by American Andy Anderson.
