Democratic Republic of Congo advanced to the final of the African Nations Championship after beating Guinea 5-4 on penalties in their last-four encounter at Kigali's Amahoro Stadium.

Following a goalless 90 minutes in Rwanda's capital, Jonathan Bolingi broke the deadlock with a superb diving header after substitute Guy Lusadisu had crossed from the by-line in the first-half of extra-time.

But just seconds before the final whistle, Guinea's Ibrahima Sory Sankhon equalised with a shot from just inside the box to send the tie to penalties.

Guinea won their quarter-final match against Zambia on penalties as goalkeeper Abdoulaziz Keita saved and then scored the decisive spot kicks, but it wasn't to be their day on this occasion.

Keita was outshined by his opposite number Ley Matampi, who saved two penalties, including one in sudden death from Mohamed Youla, to earn the victory.

Democratic Republic of Congo will now face the winner of tomorrow's other semi-final between Mali and Ivory Coast in the final on Sunday (February 7).

Earlier that same day, Guinea will go up against the loser in the third place play-off.

The tournament, now in its fourth edition, differs from the more elite Africa Cup of Nations, as only players who represent clubs on the continent are allowed to take part.

Democratic Republic of Congo won the inaugural edition in 2009, overcoming Ghana in the final.

They will be without defender Padou Bompunga in the final after he was booked just before half-time, giving him a suspension for two yellow cards in consecutive matches.
