Swiss snowboarder Simona Meiler is set to miss the rest of the World Cup season after suffering injuries during a training run at the recent Winter X Games in Aspen.

The two-time Olympian is expected to be sidelined for two to three months having fractured her lumbar vertebrae and tibial plateau after a bad fall.

"I had a quantum of luck in my misfortune, the MRI of my knee shows a tibial plateau fracture but luckily no torn ligaments or hurt meniscus," said Meiler on her Facebook page.

"To sum it up, two fractures (back and knee), no need for surgery and two to three months of rehab ahead of me."

She added: "But it also means that I should be back 100 per cent fit and ready for the whole prep for the next season."

Meiler, a snowboard cross bronze medallist at the 2015 Winter Universiade in Granada, competed at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver and Sochi respectively.

Joining her on the treatment table is Slovenian ski jumper Jernej Damjan, who has had to undergo surgery due to a knee injury.

"The injury happened last year," he said.

"At first it was painful for a week and I took an MRI but when the results came back three weeks after the injury I was feeling okay.

"My doctor said I have a small crack in my meniscus and he would operate it.

"But I did not want that at the moment because I felt no pain so I said I hope it will heal on its own.

"But it did not.

"It's getting worse so I had to say yes to an operation."

Damjan's most recent World Cup appearance came in the Russian city of Nizhny Tagil last month, when he was not able to qualify for the competition.

The 32-year-old is not expected to be ruled out for long after the surgery, but the season is still over for the 2014 Grand Prix winner.
