China’s women’s 4x100 metres T11/13 relay team sent the crowd into raptures as they broke the world record on home soil on the final day of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Grand Prix in Beijing.

The team of Guohua Zhou, Juntingxian Jia, Yuqin Wang and Cuiqing Liu powered round the track in a rapid time of 48.49, knocking 0.3 seconds off the previous record posted by Spain in 1997.

The result maintained the Chinese team’s superb performance in front of their own spectators after Jianwen Hu also managed to break a world record in the men's long jump T38 on the opening day of competition.

China have been in commanding form at the event, which is the fourth on the nine-leg IPC Grand Prix calendar, which will no doubt give them renewed confident ahead of the IPC World Athletics Championships in the Qatari capital of Doha in October.

Several Asian records also fell on the third day as home favourite Lei Zhu achieved the feat in the men’s 1500m T36/37 race thanks to clocking a blistering 4min 46.41secs.

His time proved enough to beat the previous record of 5:03.80 set by South Korea's Sungkook Kang back in 2004, before China's Jing Ma also wrote her name into the Asian sporting history books by winning the women’s 1500m T53/54 in 3:30.84.

The home nation’s success continued when Jialong Wu raced to victory in the men’s 400m T37 with another Asian record by virtue of a time of 53.81.

China’s field athletes built on the triumphant performances of their track counterparts as Guoshan Wu won the men's shot put F34/54/55/56/57 competition with a throw of 13.48, which earned a score of 956 points and with it an Asian record.

Enlong Wei, also of China, then took the men’s F46 discus honours thanks to a throw of 50.56 in his second attempt, handing him victory and breaking the continental record in the process.

Multiple World and Paralympic medallist Mian Che proved too strong for compatriot Dianwei Wang to storm to gold in the men's 400m T36, and the Chinese dominance didn’t end there as Asian Para Games champion Lin Zhu sealed her second title of the event by crossing the line in first in the women’s 100m T13 with a time of 13.52.

The hosts didn’t quite top the podium in every event as Denmark claimed two sprint victories - Daniel Jorgensen in the men's 100m T42 and Kasper Filsoe in the men's 100m T46 - as well as gold in the men’s discus F42/44m through shot put Paralympic and world champion Jackie Christiansen, who threw 47.59m.

Pagjiraporn Gagun clinched the women's 100m T46/47 by crossing the line in 13.90  to give Thailand a taste of victory as the competition drew to an entertaining close.

There is a quick turnaround for the athletes as the next IPC Athletics Grand Prix takes place in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo from April 23 to 25.
