In what was a big month for Paralympic sport, there were a number of high profile events, such as the IPC Alpine and IPC Nordic Skiing World Cups, the IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships B-Pool and international events in wheelchair tennis, swimming and athletics.

Two of the leading names of the IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships B-Pool are in contention for the award; German captain Frank Rennhack, who led his team to gold with six goals and an assist in the tournament, and top scorer  Kazuhiro Takahashi of Japan, who smashed in eight goals for the Japanese team that took silver.

March was an incredible month for the 20-year-old Mary Fisher, who set new world records in her class in the 50 metres butterfly and the 200m butterfly at the New Zealand Open Swimming Championships.

Fisher also became the first disabled athlete to win the People's Choice Award at the New Zealand Swimming Awards and was named as one of the New Zealand Herald's "Future Stars" last month. 

Also nominated for the award are 19-year-old wheelchair tennis player Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina, who defeated world number two Stephane Houdet in both the Pensacola Open and Cajun Classic to claim consecutive ITF 1 Series titles; Russia's Alexandra Frantseva, who took three World Cup titles at the IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals in Sochi, and German skier Andrea Eskau, who took three golds and a bronze at the IPC Nordic Skiing World Championships.

Voting for the award is due to close at midday Central European Time on Friday April 12.
