Suzanne Weckend-Dill_head_and_shoulders_2November 13 - The new look Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Executive Board has been finalised with the former triathlete Suzanne Weckend-Dill of Canada having been appointed as the Athlete Representative.

The new Board, led by the CGF President, Prince Imran, was elected at the General Assembly on Friday (November 11) and met for the first time to confirm the final three positions of Honorary Legal Adviser, Honorary Medical Adviser and Athlete Representative.

Sharad Rao of Kenya and Dr M Jegathesan of Malaysia both retained their positions as Honorary Legal Adviser and Honorary Medical Adviser respectively but Weckend-Dill is a new addition to the Board.

She replaces the New Zealand netballer Lesley Rumball, who has retired after her four-year term.

Weckend-Dill, a two-time Commonwealth Games representative, competed at her home Games in Victoria in 1994 as a swimmer and then again in Melbourne in 2006 as a triathlete.

She has also developed a strong sports administrative career role following her retirement as an athlete having spent three years on the Triathlon Canada Board.

"I'm so honoured and excited about the opportunity to serve as the voice for athletes from the 71 Commonwealth nations and territories," said Weckend-Dill.

"My hope is to continue the work already underway in several key areas: increasing athlete engagement within Commonwealth Games Associations, fostering open communication, providing Games services that support athlete performance, and assisting with Games planning and organisational oversight."

Weckend-Dill, who was chosen for the role ahead of Nicholas Spence Lane of New Zealand, joins fellow Canadian Bruce Robertson on the CGF's Executive Board after he re-elected for a third four-year term as vice-president.

Robertson, who is also chairman of the Glasgow 2014 Coordination Commission and the CGF Marketing Committee, will serve as vice-president alongside South Africa's Gideon Sam, who is serving his first term in the role after being elected in St Kitts and Nevis.

Imran took up the top position from Jamaica's Mike Fennell, who has stepped down after 17 years in charge following the conclusion of the Assembly.

The Malaysian takes over after 11 years as vice-president.
