Generations_For_Peace_extends_prestigious_collaboration_with_Georgetown_University_22-09-11September 23 - Generations For Peace extended its partnership with Georgetown University on International Day of Peace yesterday in a collaboration that will continue connecting sport for peace and development with practitioners and academics to the end of 2014.

The announcement came less than a week after it was confirmed that Sochi, the host of the 2014 Winter Olympics, would be holding a peace camp with Generations For Peace in October, the eighth since the organisation's inception.

Prince Feisal Al Hussein of Jordan, founder and chairman of Generations For Peace, agreed to offer four academic awards at the institute's Conflict Resolution programme, as the partnership uses sport to promote peace in conflict zones worldwide.

Prince Feisal said: "Georgetown University has a deserved reputation for commitment to peace, social justice and ethics.

"Together we are able to provide the tools and resources that allow Generations For Peace to continue making an impact on the ground by connecting top quality academic research with cutting edge practice on the ground.

"Extending our collaboration will ensure that continues."

University President Dr John DeGioia added: "Our collaboration with Generations For Peace has made a profound and positive impact within Georgetown University's Conflict Resolution masters programme, enabling our faculty and students to engage some of the most pressing issues in the field more deeply.

"We are proud of the work already carried out by our Fellowship and Scholarship holders and our Summer Field Research Grantee students, and the way in which their efforts have clearly demonstrated the demand for more learning and more research in the field.

"This extension will enable us to build on the work already done, to more fully live out Georgetown's commitment to service and social justice, and to provide an important contribution to the sport for peace and development community."

A Georgetown University committee will make the final decision on the awarding of scholarships under each of the four categories.
