The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is seeking expressions of interest from cities, national governments, sports organisations, sports sponsors, global brands, universities and other entities interested in partnering with the IPC to transfer the governance of the sport of Para Powerlifting

Para Powerlifting is one of the World Para Sports, the group of international Para sports under the governance of the IPC, currently based in Bonn, Germany at the IPC headquarters.  The sport has been included in the Paralympic Games since 1984, and more than 100 nations actively compete in Para Powerlifting events. 

In October 2019, the IPC published its governance review proposal, which includes a managed process for World Para Sports to become independent of the IPC. In December 2021, the IPC membership voted in favour of the proposal at the IPC General Assembly. Since then, five Para Sports have successfully transitioned out of the IPC. 

Potential bidders are invited to express their interest as soon as possible and no later than 31 May by emailing [email protected] and they will receive the Request for Proposal later. The IPC will hold engagement meetings in mid-2024 to provide interested parties with more information on the process. 

The IPC acts as the international governing body for five Para sports: World Para Athletics, World Para Ice Hockey, World Para Powerlifting, World Para Shooting and World Para Swimming. The IPC's vision is to create an inclusive world through Para sports.
