USA Football will announce the final roster of 12 players for the US Youth National Teams following a training camp in Charlotte, North Carolina from the end of May to the end of June. The remaining players will serve as alternates who can be called up to the 12-man roster if necessary. The 18 players will then be whittled down to the final 12.

USA Football has also announced the initial rosters for the U-15 and U-17 men's and women's flag football national teams, which will compete in the third annual Junior International Cup in Los Angeles next July. Flag Football will make its Olympic debut there in 2028. It is very likely that these youth flag football teams will be the foundation for the Olympic Games.

The US Youth Flag National Teams will compete under the rules of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF). The best teams from around the world will gather at the event next July, which will serve as a test to determine the status of each national team. The IFAF is the international governing body for American football and has more than 70 member countries.

USA Football conducted the US Youth National Team Selection Trials from 21-24 March at the Performance Center on the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. More than 130 athletes competed to advance to the US National Team Training Camp later this spring as members of the initial 18-athlete rosters. USA Football will now reduce the rosters to 12 active players and six alternates.

Youth National Teams are the foundation of a sport that is growing and beginning to be played around the world. The USA Football National Team gives athletes the opportunity to compete at an elite level. Seeing the most outstanding players from last year's Youth National Teams move up to the USA Men's and Women's National Teams is the logical progression. All with an eye on LA 2028.

Youth players from 18 states are represented on USA Football's Youth National Team rosters: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

In 2023, the NFL changed its annual Pro Bowl (All-Star game) to a flag football format. According to USA Football, participation in flag football among youth ages 6-12 has increased by 58% over the past 10 years (2014-23), with nearly 1.1 million athletes in this age group playing the sport in 2023, and a 38% increase among youth ages 6-17, with more than 1.6 million athletes in this age group playing flag football in 2023.

Teams from Canada, Japan, Mexico and Panama competed in this year's Junior International Cup. The US Youth National Team won the gold medal. They beat Japan in all four games.
