The Canadians, seeking a fourth straight title, got the better of Hungary 12-6 to top Group B at a canter with eight wins and zero defeats at Curl Aberdeen.

Skip Félix Asselin led Canada to victory in what was a closer match than the scoreline would suggest.

His side started well with three points in the opening end but were pegged back instantly as Hungary matched them with the hammer in the second.

Fóti Balázs' side then stole a point from Canada in the third to take a shock lead.

It did not last long, however, as their opponents picked up four points in the fourth end.

Hungary then whittled away at the score, picking up a point in each of the next two ends to make it 7-6 but were blown out of the water by a five-point performance from Canada in the seventh which won the game.

"Being undefeated feels great," said Asselin.

"Finishing first in our pool was our goal and once we did clinch that, we definitely had our sights on having a perfect record going into the playoffs. 

"We managed to put pressure on our opponents and big ends occurred.

"It's our goal to put rocks in play against whomever we play and that won't be any different going into the playoffs."

Canada are joined in the quarter-finals by fellow group leaders Sweden, Spain, and Norway.

The quartet will learn their last eight opponents following tomorrow's play which sees Japan, Belgium, Chinese Taipei, Australia, the United States, Italy, Latvia, and Switzerland play in the qualification games.
