Azerbaijan outfit Neftchi took a dramatic win in the International Basketball Federation 3x3 Women’s Series round held in Melilla, North Africa.

Neftchi’s victory was part of a busy two days of 3x3 basketball which saw simultaneous women’s rounds held in Quebec City and Melilla, while a men’s World Tour round took place in Lausanne.

In Melilla Neftchi took a one-point victory, with their line-up of Arica Carter, Brianna Fraser, Alexandra Mollenhauer and Dina Ulyanova.

They edged past Spain 13-12 in the final with the winning score coming with six seconds remaining, thanks to a one point shot from Mollenhauer.

Earlier in the knockout stages commercial team Neftchi beat China 17-13 in the semi-finals and the United States 17-14 in the quarter-finals.

In the Women’s Series round held simultaneously in Quebec City, Canada, the hosts claimed victory in the round after defeating United States Under-24s in the final 21-19.

Canada’s team of Michelle Plouffe, Katherine Plouffe, Paige Crozon and Jamie Scott took the trophy home after a two-point win in the final.

The winning score came just inside the final minute with a two-point shot from Michelle Plouffe.

Two points was also the margin between the two sides in their meeting during the pool stages, when Canada won 16-14.

Earlier in the knockout stages in Quebec City, Canada overcame Italy 20-14 in the semi-finals to secure their spot in the final.

The Women’s Series continues on Tuesday (August 22) with the next round scheduled to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

In the men’s 3x3 World Tour, Lausanne were denied the chance of a home win when they were beaten 22-19 in the final by Antwerp TOPdesk of Belgium.

Antwerp TOPdesk’s line-up consisted of Bryan De Valck, Dennis Donkor, Vic Van Oosterwyck and Jonas Foerts.

The final was poised at 19-19 with just over a minute remaining before a one-point shot from Donkor and a later two-point shot from Foerts gave Antwerp TOPdesk the win.

The result of the final was a reverse of the sides meeting during the pool stages, when Lausanne won 21-17.

Antwerp TOPdesk only just made it through to the knockout stages, with their one win in the pool stage coming by the narrowest of margins - 21-20 against German side Dusseldorf LFDY.

Earlier in the knockout stages Antwerp TOPdesk overcame Liman Huishan NE 22-20 in the quarter-finals, before beating Miami 22-16 in the semi-finals.

The next round of the 3x3 World Tour is due to take place in Debrecen in Hungary on August 26 and 27.
