Guernsey topped the medal standings as they made home advantage count at the Island Games by racking up more than 50 golds.

A total of 145 medals were won by the host nation during the seven-day event, including 54 golds, 49 silvers and 42 bronzes.

Much of Guernsey’s success came in shooting where they captured 16 titles in 33-medal haul, while they also accumulated a whopping 10 golds in swimming and eight in both athletics and cycling.

The final day of shooting saw Guernsey underline their dominance with victories in the open individual and team categories of the revolver WA 1500 48 shot-max 6in barrel competition.

Andrew Torode struck individual gold with a total of 474 points to overcome the challenge of Jersey's Ben Videgrain who finished just three points short.

He then joined James Straughan to win the team event with a combined total of 943 to get the better of Jersey’s Spencer Barr and Videgrain who came second on 935.

Isle of Wight’s Shelley Sprack emerged victorious from the women’s 10m air pistol final, registering 222.5 to beat Jersey’s Sarah Chalker who posted 219.9 for silver.

The men’s automatic ball trap individual title was won by Faroe Islands’ Alex Johannesen, while David Taverner of Ynys Môn was crowned English skeet individual open champion.

Guernsey won three more athletics golds at Footes Lane, triumphing in the women’s 4x100 metres relay, men’s 4x400m relay and women’s 4x400m relay.

The other relay gold was won by Jersey as they captured the men’s 4x100m title.

Ynys Môn enjoyed double delight on the track with Cari Hughes and Lolo Hughes winning the respective women’s and men’s 800m crowns.

Isle of Man trio Alan Corlett, Samuel Jones and Corrin Leeming won the men’s half marathon team event, while Isle of Wight’s Charlie Metcalfe, Holly Newton and Carly Scoble secured the women’s half marathon team title.

Leeming and Rachael Franklin delivered more half marathon success for the Isle of Man by clinching the respective men’s and women’s individual golds.

On the field, Nicholas Vila Iglesias of Menorca secured the men’s triple jump crown, while Saaremaa’s Linda Kivistik edged teammate Teele Treiel to win the women’s high jump title.

Badminton also came to its conclusion with Greenland’s Jens Nielsen coming from behind to defeat Guernsey’s Jordan Trebert 18-21, 22-20, 25023 in the men’s singles final.

There was also joy for Greenland in the women’s singles as Sarah Jacobsen beat Isle of Man’s top seed Jessica Li 21-17, 21-10.

Faroe Islands won both the men’s doubles and mixed doubles, while the Isle of Man triumphed in the women’s doubles.

At the Guernsey Tennis Centre, Jersey’s Stuart Parker secured the men’s singles title with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Menorca’s Oscar Richard Mesquida Berg and home favourite Lauren Watson-Steele saw off Jersey’s Natasha Forrest 7-5, 6-4 to strike women’s singles gold.

Menorca won the men’s doubles, Guernsey emerged victorious from the women’s doubles and the Isle of Man came out on top in the mixed doubles.

Gold medals were also won across golf, football, table tennis, triathlon, cycling and basketball on a busy final day in Guernsey.
