Guernsey’s Alison Merrien defeated her husband Ian Merrien to secure the open singles title at the Island Games.

The three-time world champion proved too strong as she claimed a 21-13 victory at the Guernsey Indoor Bowls Stadium.

There was an all-Guernsey open pairs final with Joshua Bonsall and Bradley Le Noury overcoming teammates Rose Ogier and Shirley Petit 21-10.

The bronze medals went to Jersey’s pairings of Luke Le Sueur and Cyril Renouf and Sally Black and Jean Holmes.

In shooting, Daniel Bishop topped a Isle of Wight one-two-three, beating Lee Pitman and Mark Downer to the men’s English sporting individual title.

There was also a one-two for Isle of Wight in the women’s English sporting individual event as Jennie Cartwright overcame Katie Bishop.

Tara Leighton-Dyson of Guernsey clinched the women’s 25 metre sport pistol title as Imogen Reed of the Isle of Wight came second and Jersey’s Sarah Chalker sealed bronze.

Guernsey also took the women’s team 25m sport pistol crown thanks to Leighton-Dyson and Nikki Trebert who combined for 1,094 points.

Reed teamed up with Shelley Sprack to score 1,079 for silver, while Gibraltar’s Anita Chaperon and Bettina Manner notched 1,049 for bronze.

Morgan Johansson Cropper of Gotland top scored with 237.6 to seal men’s 10m air pistol gold.

Guernsey’s Paul Guillou registered 226.6 for silver, while Stellan Egeland of Åland bagged bronze with 207.9.

At the Guernsey Table Tennis Centre, Luc Miller and Jordan Wykes of Jersey claimed a 14-12, 11-5, 11-4 win over Jonas Berglund and Mex Hedbom of Gotland to take the men’s doubles title.

There was home success for Alice Edwards and Dawn Morgan who clinched women’s doubles gold with a 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 triumph against Jersey’s Hannah Silcock and Kathryn Silcock.

Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man were among the winning nations in the swimming pool.

Isaac Dodds beat fellow Jerseyman Matthew Deffains to win the mem’s 400m freestyle title.

Robert Jones also delivered gold for Jersey with victory in the men’s 100m backstroke, while compatriot Gemma Atherley topped the women’s 100m freestyle podium.

Joel Watterson won men’s 50m freestyle gold for the Isle of Man, while Faroe Islands swimmer Elisabeth Erlendsdottir claimed the women’s 50m backstroke crown.

Orla Rabey won Guernsey’s first swimming gold of the day with women’s 200m butterfly success.

This was followed by Ronny Hallet’s victory in the men’s 200m breaststroke final, while Kyra Rabess of the Cayman Islands emerged victorious from the women’s 800m freestyle and Abigail Lacey of the Isle of Wight won women’s 100m individual medley gold.

The Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey won the respective relay titles in men’s 4x100m freestyle, women’s 4x100m medley and mixed 4x50m freestyle.

Competition is due to conclude tomorrow.
