A double bill of rounds took place in the Netherlands as the International Cycling Union BMX World Cup circuit continued.

Mahieu won a third straight round, and the event in Papendal for the second year in a row, in a time of 34.257 seconds.

Mahieu led home a French one-two with compatriot Arthur Pilard second in 34.280.

Colombia’s Diego Alejandro Arboleda Ospina completed the podium in 34.749.

In the women’s race Mahieu’s other half Sakakibara took victory, an emotional triumph at a track where she had previously crashed and suffered concussion.

Sakakibara took the win in 34.538, with the Smulders sisters from the Netherlands completing the podium in front of their home crowd, as Laura took second in 34.854, with Merel in third in 35.206.

In the fourth round the following day, French riders claimed a one-two in the men’s elite race.

After Mahieu’s surprise elimination at the semi-final stage ended his streak of wins for the season, Joris Daudet took advantage as he claimed victory in 33.718.

Compatriot Sylvain Andre took second in 33.828, with third place going to Mateo Carmona Garcia of Colombia in 34.343.

In the women’s race, Britain’s Olympic champion Bethany Shriever won her third World Cup race of the season in 33.911.

The previous day’s winner Sakakibara earned a second podium of the weekend, finishing second in 34.149.

Alise Willoughby of the United States took third place in 35.056.

The fifth and sixth rounds of the BMX Racing World Cup circuit are due to take place in Sarrians, France on September 23 and 24.
