Kajsa Vickhoff Lie became the first Norwegian woman to win an International Ski and Snowboard Federation Alpine World Cup downhill title when she claimed victory on home snow in Kvitfjell.

The event also saw Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States secure a fifth overall Alpine Skiing World Cup title, and Italian Sofia Goggia claim a third successive overall women’s downhill crown.

Vickhoff Lie, who claimed bronze in the super-G at last month’s Alpine Skiing World Championships in Courchevel-Meribel, produced an aggressive display on home snow to take the title in 1min 32.36sec.

Vickhoff Lie described the win as "the best feeling ever", with Goggia securing this season’s overall women’s World Cup downhill title after finishing second today in 1:32.65.

The podium was completed by reigning Olympic women’s downhill champion Corinne Suter of Switzerland, who finished third in 1:32.77.

Fourth place went to Slovenia’s Ilka Stuhec in 1:32.97, with Shiffrin finishing in joint fifth alongside Austrian Ramona Siebenhofer in 1:33.15, enough for a fifth overall World Cup crown for the American.

Shiffrin’s next target will be winning an 86th World Cup race overall, with the next opportunity coming tomorrow when Kvitfjell hosts a super-G event.
