Medals were handed out in five disciplines at Grenchen in Switzerland, with Filippo Ganna, Francesco Lamon, Jonathan Milan and Manlio Moro taking men’s team pursuit victory in 3:47.667.

Silver went to Britain’s quartet of Daniel Bigham, Charlie Tanfield, Ethan Vernon and Oliver Wood in 3:48.800.

In the race for bronze, France were successful completing the podium as their team of Thomas Denis, Corentin Ermenault, Quentin Lafargue and Thomas Benjamin won in 3:49.837.

Britain took the women’s team pursuit title with their quartet of Katie Archibald, Neah Evans, Josie Knight and Anna Morris victorious in a time of 4min 13.890sec.

Italy’s team of Martina Alzini, Elisa Balsamo, Martina Fidanza and Vittoria Guazzini won silver in 4:16.018.

There were high hopes for the German quartet going into the event, which featured three members of the line-up that won gold in the discipline at Tokyo 2020, but they had to settle for bronze.

Franziska Brausse, Lisa Klein, Mieke Kroger and Laura Sussemilch took bronze in a time of 4:14.402.

In the men’s points race victory went to Italian Simone Consonni, part of the Italy team that are the current Olympic team pursuit champions.

Consonni took gold with 54 points, with silver going to Spain’s Albert Barcelo Torres with 51, and the podium completed by France’s Donavan Grondin with 48 points.

Victory in the women’s elimination race went to Belgium’s Lotte Kopecky, a four-time world track champion.

Valentine Fortin of France took silver, with the bronze going to Maike van der Duin of the Netherlands.

In the men’s one kilometre time-trial victory went to Jeffrey Hoogland, the fourth time the Dutchman has won gold in the discipline at the European Championships.

Hoogland won in a time of 58.203sec, with silver going to Alejandro Martinez Chorro in 59.687.

The podium places were completed by Germany’s Maximilian Dornbach in a time of 59.778.

Medals are due to be awarded tomorrow in the women’s omnium, men’s scratch race, men’s individual pursuit and women’s sprint.
