Britain is looking to return to the top of the standings at the European Track Cycling Championships at the upcoming event from tomorrow until February 12 in Grenchen.

The country has not seen the summit since the 2020 edition but has new mothers Elinor Barker and Katy Marchant back in the team.

Barker won the women's elimination race gold, was part of the victorious team pursuit quintet, and sealed madison bronze alongside Laura Kenny.

Britain sent a younger squad to the European Championships in Munich last year and came away with just two silver medals.

In addition to Barker and Marchant, double Olympic champion Katie Archibald leads the squad and will be looking to add to her 17 gold medals on the continental stage.

Outside of the British squad, Belgium's Lotte Kopecky is tipped to retain her titles in the scratch and elimination events.

Elisa Balsamo is spearheading the Italian team despite only being selected for the Championships for the first time since 2020.

The country's men's outfit boasts Filippo Ganna.

He has not competed at the European level since 2019 but holds the International Cycling Union Hour Record and is expected to perform.

Ganna is joined by compatriot Elia Viviani, the 2016 Olympic men's omnium champion, who is heavily fancied to win the elimination race as he is a double world gold medallist in the discipline.

Britain's hopes in the men's endurance events took a hit as Ethan Hayter was forced to withdraw from the team after fracturing his collarbone riding for INEOS Grenadiers.

Instead, their charge will be led by Jack Carlin in the sprints.

France will look to Sébastien Vigier to deny Carlin as he is the defending champion in both the individual sprint and the keirin.

The first day will see four gold medals won with titles on offer in the women's scratch, men's elimination, and men's and women's team sprint finals.
