It would be a rejection of the Olympic Council of Asia's (OCA) proposal, which suggested athletes from the country compete in Asian events including the Asian Games, subject to conditions from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The organisation said the discussions over Russia and Belarus would continue through to the World Archery Congress in July.

"It has been suggested that neutral athletes will compete in Asia," said World Archery in a statement.

"Due to the potential impact on Asian athletes and National Federations, given the knockout format in archery and the balance of continental quotas in the qualification system, the World Archery Executive Board has decided that this should not be used as a potential route for neutral athletes to qualify for the Paris Olympics.

"If a return to competition of neutral athletes is confirmed, other qualification opportunities will need to be identified in conjunction with the IOC. 

"World Archery currently bans the use of the Russian and Belarusian flags, does not sanction competition within these countries, and does not allow their athletes to participate in international competitions. 

"It is expected that further discussion of this issue will take place at the World Archery Congress in July."

There are 11 archery quotas available at the Asian Games for Paris 2024, of which seven are in team events.

Sports such as chess and football have been more proactive in making a switch from Europe to Asia, but no National Federations have officially changed continental body.

Russian participation at the Paris 2024 Games has been opposed by several nations in Europe including Ukraine, which was invaded by its neighbouring nation one year ago.

Others with similar stances include Poland, who suggests 40 countries are against them competing at the Games.
