Nigerian taekwondo athlete Bright Kolade has set his sights on gold at next year's African Games in Accra following his triumph at the National Sports Festival in Asaba.

Kolade was victorious in the men's under-74-kilograms category in the domestic competition which has motivated him for continental victory in the Ghanaian capital.

"My target is first to win the National Sports Festival gold and I have done that," he said, as reported by Punch.

"My next dream is to win at the African Games in 2023.

"I can tell you that the G-4 Taekwondo tournament I participated in, in Rwanda, opened my eyes to so many things that I needed to learn.

"The experience I picked from there was what I used in the festival to become a champion."

Accra 2023 is set to take place from August 4 to 19, and is due to be Ghana's first time hosting the African Games.

The taekwondo competitions are due to be held at the Borteyman Sports Complex along with aquatics, football, judo, weightlifting and tennis.

Sporting action is also set to take place at the University of Ghana Stadium, with the Games hoped to give Ghana "the opportunity to promote peace, development and unity in Africa."

Ghana is currently heavily in debt and earlier this month a $3 billion (£2.5 billion/€2.8 billion) bailout had to be agreed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to help stabilise its economy.
