The Organising Committee of the Kraków-Małopolska 2023 European Games is encouraging citizens in Poland and further afield to consider blood donation.

They are using the "Donate Blood, Save Lives" slogan to mobilise people towards this.

Employees of Kraków-Małopolska 2023 were amongst those to participate in the campaign.

Andrzej Masny, a local politician and advocate for the Games, encouraged people to do so on social media.

"The last time this year, and as the first at 7 am in the queue in the colours of my company - at the Children's Hospital in Krk - 450 millilitres went in less than 6 minutes and has done for 35 years," he said.

"[This] Christmas I encourage everyone [to donate] - it does not hurt and blood saves lives and health."

Statistics from 2018 suggested approximately 590,000 blood donors existed in Poland that year.

The 2023 European Games are scheduled to take place between June 21 and July 2.
