Napis Tortungpanich of Thailand and Romanian Laura-Georgeta Ilie have secured gold medals in the men's and women's 10 metres air rifle competitions, respectively, at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Grand Prix in Jakarta.

Tortungpanich produced a stunning performance in the final against Indonesian Fathur Gustafian to take the first gold medal of the event.

The final score was 16-12 in Tortungpanich's favour as he shot lower than 10 on just two of 12 attempts.

In the semi-final, he scored less than Gustafian while Singapore's Tianrui Gai came third to win the bronze medal.

The four-time Southeast Asian Games gold medallist Tortungpanich topped the qualification stage with 625.9 points while Gustafian was down in fourth with 621.9.

In the women's event, Ilie beat Indonesian Khairunnisa Salsabela 16-14.

The world number four put on a formidable display which saw her post a 9.7 as her worst shot.

Bangladeshi athlete Nafisha Tabasum rounded out the top three with a score of 37 in the semi-final, compared to Ilie's 49 and Salsabela's 45.5 which saw them progress to the final.

The action continues tomorrow in Indonesia where champions will be crowned in the 10m men's air pistol, 10m women's air pistol and 10m mixed team air rifle events.

Saturday (December 12) sees the last of the 10m events scheduled with the mixed team air pistol before the 25m pistol, 25m rapid fire pistol and 50m three positions rifle competitions.
