The World Minigolf Sport Federation (WMF) has announced it has cancelled all of its remaining WMF International Minigolf Championships in 2020.

All of the events have instead been postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, the WMF said: "We believe that even though organising competitions might be possible later this year, it could probably happen only with strong restrictions and the full focus would not be on sport.

"Also international travelling will probably stay restricted for a longer time and it would be very hard to allow all nations similar possibilities to participate.

"After discussions with the designated organisers they all have agreed to organise the Championships in 2021."

The calendar for 2021 will start with the Under-23 Nations Cup in Murnau and the Seniors Nations Cup in Wanne-Eickel, both in Germany, on May 22 and 23.

Kuopio in Finland will hold the World Adventure Golf Masters from June 11 before Murnau and Wanne-Eickel host events again.

The Youth World Championships will come to Murnau from August 10 to 14 with the Seniors World Championships going to Wanne-Eickel from August 11 to 14.

Voltsberg in Austria will hold the Open European Championships General Class later in the month, from August 25 to 28.

Other competitions are yet to receive new dates, including the Open African Championships in Accra in Ghana, provisionally scheduled for September.

October will provisionally hold the European Champions League Final in Portel in Portugal and the Open Asian Championships in Chiang Mai in Thailand.

There are also plans to hold the World Deaf Minigolf Championships between March and May.

The Open Oceanian Championships were already held in 2020 before COVID-19 restrictions, while the Open American Championships were not scheduled to take place in 2020, but could potentially be added to the 2021 calendar.

There will not be a change to age category limits for next year, meaning some athletes who were eligible for competition in 2020 may be too old in 2021.

Meanwhile, the World Adventure Golf Masters 2022 has been awarded to Gumpoldskirchen in Austria with dates still to be confirmed.

Rotation of the continental and World Championships will now move forward one year, meaning that continental competitions will take place in odd years and World Championships in even years.
