Harmeet Desai upset top seed and compatriot Sathiyan Gnanasekaran to clinch the men's singles title as hosts India completed a clean sweep of all seven gold medals available at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in Cuttack.
Desai overcame the world number 24 9-11, 6-11, 11-5, 11-8, 17-15, 7-11, 11-9 in a gruelling final at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.
It marked the second defeat of the day for the pre-event favourite after Gnanasekaran and Sharath Kamal were beaten 8-11, 11-6, 13-11, 12-10 by Anthony Amalraj and Manav Thakkar.
A monopoly of the medals on offer at the event from the host nation was guaranteed as all four finals held today were all-Indian affairs.
Ayhika Mukherjee claimed the women's singles crown as she overcame Madhurika Patkar.
Mukherjee was in fine form as she defeated her compatriot in straight games 11-6, 11-4, 11-9, 19-17 to top the podium.
Pooja Sahasrabudhe and Krittwika Sinha Roy were the winners of the women's doubles title as they beat Sreeja Akula and Mousumi Paul 3-1 11-9, 11-8, 9-11,12-10.
The results propelled India to the top of the medals table on seven golds, five silver and three bronze.
England won two silvers and three bronze to finish second.
