The European powerhouse proved too strong for the rest of the competition as Belarus finished a distant second on the medals table with six golds.

Zsófia Szénási was among the home winners today when crossing first in the women's K1 500 metres in a time of 1min 59.467sec.

Alina Neumiarzhytskaya of Belarus clinched silver in 1:59.617 and Germany's Katharina Koether the bronze in 1:59.883.

Viktor Viola was another Hungarian individual champion with a time of 1:56.710 to win the men's C1 500m.

Belarus took silver again courtesy of Maksim Krysko in 1:56.810.

Bronze went to Great Britain's Jonathan Andrew Wynne-Jones in 1:57.399.

Other winners included Australia's Simon McTavish, who took the K1 500m men's crown in 1:40.666.

Zsombor Jozsef Noe took silver for Hungary in 1:42.955 and Felix Frank of Germany was third in 1:43.455.

McTavish later took K1 200m bronze in 35.256 behind Belorussian winner Ivan Tsuranau, who claimed gold in 35.117, and Italy's Michele Bertolini, who was second in 35.145.

Germany beat Hungary to gold in the men's K4 500m.

There time of 1:23.183 was swifter than the host clocking of 1:23.899 as Belarus crossed third in 1:25.516.

Spain were winners in the K4 200m, in 30.494, as Italy took silver in 30.521 and Hungary bronze in 30.582.

Poland won the women's K4 500m in 1:36.601.

Germany were second in 1:37.779 and Belarus third in 1:38.540.
