Szolnok in Hungary is set to welcome some of the best student athletes on the planet at the World University Canoe Sprint Championships starting tomorrow.

A total of 21 countries have entered the three-day event at the Holt -Tisza Regatta Course, which concludes on Sunday (August 12).

European nations with strong records in canoe sprint at major events, such as Germany, Spain and Britain, dominate the list of entries.

India, Japan, Mexico and Canada are among the non-European countries to send athletes to the Championships.

"By taking part in the FISU World University Canoe Sprint Championship, you will be contributing to a record-equalling programme of events across 34 different sports, some of them new to the International University Sports Federation (FISU)," FISU President Oleg Matytsin said.

"None of these events would be possible without the gracious generosity of the hosts, and I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the National University Sports Federation of Hungary and the organisers for their excellent efforts."
