Mongolian Volleyball Federation vice-president Odkhuu Tserenpil was presented with the International Olympic Committee Sport Beyond Borders trophy at a gala ceremony.

The ceremony was held to mark 90-years of volleyball development in Mongolia, as well as the 60th anniversary of the federation being established.

Tserenpil was presented with the trophy in honour of his outstanding contribution to volleyball.

It followed his efforts as a player, partner and sponsor of the sport in the country, as well as serving as the national team manager in 2015 and 2017.

Tserenpil, who serves on the governing body's Board, has heavily supported the country’s national and junior teams through his Vitafit company.

The honour has been awarded by the Mongolian National Olympic Committee since 1994, with Jigjidiin Mönkhbat the first to be presented with the trophy.

He became the country's first Olympic silver medallist when he ended as the runner-up in the men's 87 kilogram freestyle wrestling event at Mexico City 1968.

The Mongolian Volleyball Federation claim the sport has been regarded as a "key discipline" since it was brought into the nation by Russians in 1927.

They claim around 10,000 people play volleyball in Mongolia.

The ceremony showcased several milestones in the federation's history, while their team from the 1970 World Championships in Sofia were paraded in front of the crowd.
