Japan's Ai Ueda is targeting ending the International Triathlon Union World Cup season in style as she prepares to compete at the last event of the campaign on home soil in Miyazaki.

The Japanese city is set to play host to the 15th and final World Cup this year tomorrow.

Ueda, who won the corresponding event last season, is among one of the leading contenders in the women's field.

She is hoping to build on the silver medal she claimed in Tongyeong in South Korea last weekend.

Summer Cook of the United States, who emerged victorious in front of Ueda in the South Korean city, is aiming to complete her World Cup season with back-to-back wins.

"For this race, I would like to repeat the win here in Miyazaki," said Ueda.

"I see Summer has been developing and building her total strength and has made progress in training.

"She is a good sprinter but I have confidence in my racing against her to win the race, so I will do my best.”

The men's competition will feature three athletes who have topped the podium in the World Cup this season.

Spaniard Uxio Abuin Ares, Mexico's Rodrigo Gonzalez and Aurelien Raphael have also tasted success on the circuit this campaign and will be among those contesting the gold medal in Miyazaki.

Andreas Schilling of Denmark, known for his brave breakaways, Vincente Hernandez of Spain and Belgian Marten Van Riel are also likely to challenge for the last title of the season.

"I came here to both Tongyeong and Miyazaki to finish off the season in a good way and I had a decent result last week, but I am hoping to do even better this week," said Schilling.

"I want to get all the experiences that I can racing in Japan before the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, so that is one of the reasons that I am here this week.”
