China's double Olympic champion Lin Dan kept his quest for a sixth Badminton World Federation World Championship title alive as he battled into the semi-finals in Glasgow today.

The 33-year-old Beijing 2008 and London 2012 gold medallist last won the global crown on home soil in Guangzhou in 2013.

He was in fine form on quarter-finals day at the Emirates Arena in the Scottish city, ousting Hong Kong's Wong Wing Ki 21-17, 21-18.

Lin's reward is a semi-final date with South Korea's number one seed Son Wan-ho.

The Asian Games champion in 2014 proved too strong for Indian Srikanth Kidambi, recording a 21-14, 21-18 success.

All semi-finalists at the World Championships are guaranteed at least a bronze medal.

China's defending champion Chen Long remains on course to retain his title as the Rio 2016 Olympic gold medallist beat compatriot Tian Houwei.

Chen was successful 21-12, 21-17.

He will now play Denmark's Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Viktor Axelsen, who is also through after his match with Taiwan's Chou Tien-chen went the distance.

The Dane eventually booked his passage with victory in three, 21-18, 20-22, 21-16.

In the women's competition, back-to-back world champion and Rio 2016 Olympic gold medallist Carolina Marin of Spain is out.

She lost to Japan's Nozomi Okuhara in three, 21-18, 14-21, 21-15.

The Japanese will meet India's Saina Nehwal in the last four after she broke home hearts with victory over Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour.

Nehwal won an epic 21-19, 18-21, 21-15.

India's Rio 2016 silver medallist PV Sindhu breezed into the semi-finals.

She proved much better than China's Sun Yu on the day, with the fourth seed beating the fifth seed 21-14, 21-9.

Sindhu will play China's ninth seed Chen Yufei in the semi-finals, after she came from behind to beat Thailand's 2013 world champion Ratchanok Intanon.

The 19-year-old showed great character to beat the eighth seed 14-21, 21-16, 21-12.
