Brazil and Czech Republic have been announced as the two contenders to host the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) World Championships in 2021.

Countries interested in hosting one of the 13 IOF competitions had to submit their applications by the end of last month.

Both applications for the World Championships will now be evaluated by the world governing body's Foot Orienteering (FootO) Commission before a decision is due to made by the IOF Council in July.

If Brazil is successful, it would mark the first edition to take place in South America and the first to be held outside Europe since Aichi in Japan hosted the Championships in 2005.

Tartu in Estonia is due to host this year's event from July 1 to 7, before Riga in Latvia, Østfold in Norway and Vejle and Kolding in Denmark are the locations for the respective 2018, 2019 and 2020 editions.

In other competitions looking for hosts, six countries bid for the 2019 European Youth Championships.

Belarus, Czech Republic and Hungary were joined by Lithuania, Serbia and Turkey.

Turkey is also the only applicant for the 2020 Junior World Championships.

Great Britain, Italy and Slovakia will compete to host the World Masters Orienteering Championships, also due to take place in 2020.

Russia has applied for three events in ski orienteering to be held in 2019 - the European Championships, the European Youth Championships and the Junior World Championships.

Turkey has also bid for all three events, while Sweden is challenging for the two age group ones.

The IOF decided to keep the World Ski Orienteering (SkiO) Championships in the resort of Krasnoyarsk in March, despite evidence of state-sponsored doping in the country.

The World SkiO Championships 2020 has not received any bids yet and is therefore still open for applications.

The same goes for the European TrailO Championships 2020 and the World TrailO Championships 2021.
