Chile have staged the first edition of the South American Orienteering Championships with more than 475 athletes taking part in the competition.

Athletes from outside of South America were also able to participate across the three-days of competition, which saw competitors contest open events.

This meant 13 nations would be present at the event, taking place in the urban sector of Valparaiso and in the National Reservation Lago Peñuelas.

Brazil were able to celebrate multiple successes, with Leandro Pasturiza and Leticia da Silva triumphing in the long distance competitions.

Sidnaldo Farias triumphed in the men’s middle distance competition for Brazil, with his compatriot Franciely Siqueira winning the women’s event.
