Hosts Cameroon booked their place at the Africa Women Cup of Nations semi-finals after a narrow victory over South Africa at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde.

The early exchanges of the game saw both sides have promising openings with Gaelle Enganamouit nearly giving the home team the advantage.

Cameroon had a penalty appeal waved away midway through the half when Enganamouit went to ground in the box, with both teams ultimately going into the break level.

The second period would continue in a similar vein as both sides struggled to make the breakthrough, which lead to both coaches looking to their bench.

Substitute Ngo Mbeleck would ultimately prove the difference, scoring seven minutes from time to earn Cameroon a 1-0 victory.

The result saw Cameroon advance to the semi-final stage of the tournament, having won their opening two Group A matches.

Egypt, beaten by the host nation on the first day, moved up to second in the standings after overcoming Zimbabwe.

They were given a scare when Rutendo Makore headed wide for Zimbabwe from close range, while Salma Ahmed went close for Egypt.

Ahmed would ultimately prove to be the matchwinner, with a close range finish in the final minutes giving Egypt a 1-0 victory.

It would be a historic first win for nation at the tournament, having made their only previous appearance in the 1998 edition of the event.

The result put Egypt in pole position to claim the second qualification spot having moved onto three points, while Zimbabwe or South Africa have one point each heading into the final group games.

Tomorrow will see the second Group B matches take place, with Nigeria meeting Ghana and Kenya taking on Mali.
