South Africa paceman Dale Steyn has reclaimed the number one spot in the International Cricket Council's (ICC) player rankings for Test bowlers.

The 33-year-old was in match-winning form in Centurion as he helped his country overcome New Zealand by five wickets on Tuesday (August 30).

He finished with figures of 5-33 in the second innings, which marked his 26th five wicket haul.

His match figures were 8-99 which took him to the summit of the rankings ahead of India's off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and England's fast bowler James Anderson.

Steyn was world number one between February 2014 and December 2015, when a shoulder injury during a Test Match with England in Durban limited his involvement.

Ashwin took over on top and was able to stay in the position until now after some strong performances.

Steyn has been number one for a record 263 Tests, spending 2,320 days at the top, the most by any bowler since the Second World War.

He first occupied top spot jointly in April 2008, alongside retired Sri Lanka off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan.
