Hungary’s Anna Gyarmati and the United States’ Brandon Davis claimed their first-ever victories in an International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard Freestyle World Cup after coming out on top at the Mammoth Mountain in California.

In the women's final, Gyarmati earned 82.75 points in the first of her two runs, setting the bar too high for her opponents with Americans Jessika Jenson and Karly Shorr second and third on 78.50 and 75.00 respectively.

The 23-year-old impressed the judges with a gap to tailslide, frontboard, 50/50 backside 180 out, switch backside 180 japan and a back flip.

Her win in Main Park marked the first time a rider from Hungary had placed on the podium and came just weeks after she had returned from an injury lay-off.

"Winning here means pretty much everything right now, because I just came back from an injury," said the 2011 junior world champion.

"I broke my upper arm, so I couldn't ride for a long time.

"But I'm super happy."

Davis led an all-American podium sweep ahead of Eric Willett and Charles Guldemond.

The 20-year-old upped his game when it really mattered, despite initially struggling to make the top-10 final in his home resort,  to score 97.00 points in the last of his three runs with Willet managing 92.50 and Guldemond registering 91.00.

"It means the world," said Davis, who, prior to today had competed at only four World Cup events with a third place at last season's big air in Istanbul his best finish so far.

"Growing up here, I just felt so comfortable with being here at home surrounded by all my friends and family, and I just couldn't have asked for it to go a better way.

"It was kind of a weird day.

"I just barely snuck into finals, wasn't really having the best practice, didn't have the best first run, but then everything just ended up working out and here I am.

"I don't really know what to say."

America's Chris Corning defended his lead in the men’s World Cup standings with his eighth-place finish, while his team-mate Hailey Langland took over top spot in the women's World Cup rankings after coming fourth today.

The FIS Snowboard Freestyle World Cup is due to continue tomorrow at Mammoth Mountain with the qualifiers for this season's second halfpipe event.

Finals are scheduled for Sunday (January 24), but changes to the schedule are a possibility due to challenging weather conditions.
