Uzbekistan’s Guzal Ismatova stunned heavyweight favourite Lazzat Kungeybayeva of Kazakhstan with a first-round stoppage to progress to the final at the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Continental Championships in Wulanchabu, China, today.

Ismatova was the clear underdog going into the fight but the 19-year-old was able to claim a shock win, knocking world silver medallist Kungeybayeva down early on, forcing a premature finish to the bout.

She will now go on to face Wang Shijin for gold after the Chinese fighter secured a unanimous success against Seema Poonia of India.

Following their last four defeats, both Poonia and Kungeybayeva had to settle for bronze with the gold medal contest scheduled to take place tomorrow.

London 2012 Olympic Games bronze medallist Mavzuna Chorieva of Tajikistan is also out after she suffered defeat at the hands of North Korea’s Ri Tong Sun in the lightweight division.

In a closely-fought bout, Ri sealed her place in the final with a third-round stoppage of Chorieva, the only athlete from her country to win a medal at London 2012, a bronze.

The North Korean will go up against Oh Yeon-Ji of South Korea following her unanimous points decision win over home favourite Yin Junhua in the other lightweight semi-final.

The entertaining fight provided a great deal of entertainment for the crowd inside the arena as the South Korean competitor used her body punches throughout the four rounds to clinch a surprise win against the Incheon 2014 Asian Games gold medallist.

Olympic silver medallist and three-times world champion Ren Cancan maintained her excellent performance on home soil, guaranteeing herself at least silver, proving too strong for Mongolia’s Nandintsetseg Myagmardulam in the flyweight category, emerging with a unanimous points victory.

Cancan’s compatriot Yang Wenlu is through to the light welterweight gold medal match, beating Shoira Zulkaynarova after all three judges awarded her the fight.

There was yet more success for the home country, who have athletes in no fewer than seven finals, as current world champion Yang Xiaolin battled through her light heavyweight semi-final with Kazakhstan’s Moldir Bazarbayeva, eventually sealing a split decision success.

North Korea enjoyed a fruitful day, with four more boxers adding to Ri’s triumph by reaching their respective gold medal bouts.

Light flyweight U Yong Gum got her country off to a superb start by beating South Korea's Bak Cho Rong  before Ri Hyang Mi got the better of Ayako Minowa, Japan’s only semi-finalist, in the flyweight division.

Ri Kwang Suk was then able to progress by virtue of a convincing 3-0 win over Uzbekistan’s Yodgor Mirzoyeva in their featherweight encounter, with the final North Korean victory coming thanks to light welterweight world champion Pak Kyong Ok, who beat Vietnam’s Ha Thi Linh.
