The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) have held a seminar in Seef to unveil this year’s edition of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Scientific Research Award in the field of sports to experts taking part during 2015.

More than 400 teachers from the Ministry of Education were present at the event and they viewed a special film to mark the occasion of the third edition of the award, highlighting its goal to promote positive attitudes towards scientific research and help the development of the sports movement.

Dr Abdulrahman Sayyar, general secretary of the award, outlined that the award seeks to achieve a distinctive leadership research which would help to build an intellectual society in within sport.

Sayyar also reflected that the award would help to establish community partnerships to conduct and produce scientific research to develop the sports movement not only in Bahrain, but also throughout other Arab nations.

He praised the idea of allowing entries from all Arab countries from people between the ages of 18 and 26.

The winner of the award is set to receive a certificate of appreciation from Shaikh Nasser, while they are set to receive a commemorative gift which will bear the symbol of the award.

In addition to the certificate and commemorative gift, the winner will also be granted a cash prize for their work towards achieving the award.

The BOC hope the award will help to support the needs of the sports community by encouraging local and regional experts to conduct research into sport in attempt to increase the level of performance in all areas, while honouring those pioneers in scientific research.

The seminar was also attended by BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, the Ministry of Education’s physical education head Essam Abdulla, who both believe that by promoting positive attitudes towards scientific research the sporting movement can benefit from enhanced research and continue to develop.
