The vibrant city of Helsinki was the scene of a historic event in mid-April, as luminaries from the world of university sport gathered to celebrate the remarkable 100th anniversary of the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL). The gala event was held in honour of a century of sporting excellence and camaraderie.

Among the distinguished attendees was the Finnish Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity, who took the opportunity to pay tribute to key figures associated with the Finnish university sport movement. Also in attendance were representatives of OLL affiliated student unions, former OLL presidents and esteemed delegates from the Finnish Olympic Committee. 

Adding to the international flair were the presidents of the national university sports federations of Norway and Sweden, as well as figures from the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and the International University Sports Federation (FISU). 

The event buzzed with energy and joy as the guests celebrated a century of dedication, passion, and sportsmanship. The atmosphere was electric with jubilation and camaraderie, reflecting the vibrant spirit of Finnish university sport. Friends of Finnish University Sport and International University Sport united in celebration, sharing stories, experiences, and aspirations for the future. 

The official speeches were full of gratitude and pride, and were delivered by distinguished guests including Sandra Bergqvist, Minister of Youth, Sports and Physical Activity of Finland, Mio Kortelainen, President of OLL, Adam Roczek, President of EUSA, and Fernando Parente, representing FISU.

On behalf of FISU President Leonz Eder, Parente warmly congratulated OLL and praised its commitment to the promotion and development of university sport worldwide. FISU highlighted OLL's significant contributions, including the hosting of the Winter Universiade in 1970 and organising several World University Championships. He praised OLL's ethos of promoting student wellbeing and educational experiences through physical activity.

In a poignant moment, OLL was presented with a silver plate symbolising a century of excellence and dedication to university sport. The celebration not only honoured OLL's illustrious past, but also heralded a promising future guided by the enduring spirit of university sport. 

As the evening drew to a close, attendees left with renewed enthusiasm, inspired by a century of achievement and eager to embark on the next chapter of the Finnish Student Sports Federation's journey.
