Dominican Republic a premier destination for major taekwondo events. PATU

In an unprecedented sporting showcase, the Dominican Republic has been the epicentre of sporting excellence, successfully hosting three internationally renowned events: the Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifier, the Paralympic Qualifier and the prestigious Dominican Open.

The Olympic Qualifier saw nine countries secure their place at the world's greatest sporting event. Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Canada, Uruguay, Chile, the United States, Venezuela, Argentina and Cuba celebrated their Olympic berths in an atmosphere of fierce competition and sporting camaraderie. 

In the Paralympic Games Qualifiers, six nations secured their place at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Brazil, Venezuela and Chile demonstrated their skill and dedication to earn their place in a show of inclusion and self-improvement. 

The Dominican Open, a high-profile taekwondo tournament, was also a huge success, attracting competitors from around the world and providing the perfect stage to showcase the talent and skill of the sport. 

Juan Manuel Lopez, President of the Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU), expressed his deep gratitude to all the participants, the Organising Committee and the authorities of the World Taekwondo Federation for their support and cooperation in hosting these transcendental events. He highlighted the commitment of all those involved in making these events a resounding success and stressed the importance of international cooperation to develop and promote the sport in the region. 

With these events, the Dominican Republic has consolidated its position as a high-class destination for major sporting events, demonstrating its ability to organise and host world-class competitions.
