Vilnius, Lithuania, will host the events that are not part of the SELL Student Games, which will be held separately next week in Kaunas from 16-19 May. Registration closed this Thursday and the competitions will take place in the gyms of the Ozo Gymnasium in Vilnius and the Mykolas Romeris University in Kaunas.

Everything is ready for the Lithuanian School Fencing and Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships. They will be held in Vilnius from this Saturday, 13 April. The Lithuanian Student Sports Association, together with its partners, has taken over the organisation of the competitions, which will once again become a testing ground for young talents and for athletes to progress.

Several student championships will be held on this occasion. These are not included in the SELL Student Games, which will be held in Kaunas from 16 to 19 May, and will therefore be held separately.

The Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship will be held in the gymnasium of Vilnius Ozo Gymnasium. The number of participants is not limited and the competitions will be held in the following weight categories 60 kg, 67 kg, 77 kg, 82 kg, 87 kg, 97 kg, 130 kg. The best results of seven team members will be taken into account, with a maximum of two athletes in each weight category.

The Fencing Championship will be held in Vilnius, at the Mykolas Romeris University Sports Hall with one weapon: a sword. The event is organised by the Lithuanian Student Sports Association under the leadership of Mykolas Romeris University in cooperation with the Lithuanian Fencing Federation. The High Performance Student Sports Programme is established by the Lithuanian National Sports Agency of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports.

One of the organisers of the championship, Jurgis Atroškevičius, was delighted with the new venue and the return to Vilnius. "I am very happy that the championship is back in Vilnius after a long time ," said Atroškevičius. "We are being hosted by Mykolas Romeris University and we are very happy about that. Our sport is practised by many amateurs and enthusiasts, so we are glad to have this student championship where we have another opportunity to compete."

The Greco-Roman Wrestling Student Championships will also be held in Vilnius, at the Ozo Gymnasium. Saulius Liaugminas, one of the organisers of the championship and coach of the LSU student team, spoke about the importance of getting more students to participate. "We are preparing intensively for the championship. Participants are asking questions and registering."

When asked about the preparations for the championship, Liaugminas said: "We have contacted all the university coaches and officials and discussed the number of participants. Our athletes want to compete and there is a lot of interest. An athlete who has lost in a championship knows that his rival will compete in the Student Championships, so he comes to take revenge."

In these categories, it is obvious that they face a logistical problem. The costs of travel, equipment and other things are high. "We understand that travelling from Klaipėda to Vilnius can sometimes be a challenge."

"However, we must to try to find solutions. A dedicated athlete who is interested in competition should not have to travel to championships at his or her own expense. Even for a student athlete, efforts should be made to create conditions."

The problem for these students is that they need time to travel, which can mean missing classes. The authorities do not want to exempt them from this, but they do want to provide some facilities or extra time for these students. The image of the university is enhanced by the sporting achievements of the students themselves and it is the responsibility of all parties to create this environment.
